Private Cloud Compute processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Furthermore, Apple plans to add support for the SynthID standard via a software update later this year. Metadata associated with images will serve as an additional tool to identify content that has been AI-generated or altered.
Variable aperture provides photographers with enhanced control
The A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process, combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims that the GPU can deliver performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores, to support artificial intelligence tasks. A new thermal design positions the chip closer to a larger vapor chamber, enabling the system to sustain performance levels up to 40% higher than previous generations.
Battery capacity has also been increased, especially on models that operate exclusively with eSIM. Apple states that the iPhone 18 Pro can achieve up to 36 hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours under the same testing conditions. Fast charging capabilities allow the Pro to reach 50% in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only variants will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and several other countries beyond the region.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI integration into the new Pro lineup
The new iPhone 18 Pro series operates on iOS 27 and supports the upcoming generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Apple has scheduled support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish for October. The virtual assistant can draw from messages, emails, and photos to assist users, respond to on-screen content, and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence leverages both on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute to manage supported cloud-based functions.
Both models will be available in colors such as burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will be accepted from 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales commencing on September 18 initially in select markets.
