CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – As part of a broader upward trend in its external assets, Egypt’s net international reserves hit an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the close of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. Reserves had been $56.2939 billion at the end of July, marking a monthly increase of approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This marks the first occasion when Egypt’s official reserve holdings have surpassed the $57 billion threshold.

The August figure continues a steady upward trajectory recorded throughout 2026. Starting the year with reserves of $52.5938 billion in January, Egypt’s holdings increased month by month, reaching $52.7455 billion in February, $52.8306 billion in March, $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. By August, reserves had grown by roughly $4.62 billion since January and about $5.76 billion from the end of December 2025.
The growth momentum gained pace during mid-2026. Reserves increased from $53.1342 billion in May to $55.0723 billion in June, then rose again to $56.2939 billion in July before hitting the August record. The combined increase over these three months exceeded $4 billion. Compared to August 2025, the latest reserve figure is approximately $7.96 billion higher, representing an annual growth rate of around 16.2%.
Remittances Contribute Significantly to Foreign Currency Inflows
Remittances sent home by Egyptians abroad also reached a historic high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt indicated that these inflows totaled approximately $47.3 billion, a jump of 29.6% compared to about $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances amounted to roughly $4.2 billion, which was 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures for the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year show a deficit of $1.8 billion for the period from July to March. The capital and financial account recorded net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account deficit stood at $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial position prior to the August reserve update.
Consistent Monthly Reserve Growth Continues into 2026
Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve levels have repeatedly hit new nominal highs. The holdings surpassed $55 billion in June, moved above $56 billion in July, and in August, reached a new peak exceeding $57 billion for the first time. The country now reports three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion. The August figure also exceeds the December 2025 reserve level of $51.4516 billion by more than 10%.
These latest statistics place Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest recorded level and continue a pattern of uninterrupted monthly increases since the start of 2026. Each monthly reading from January to August was higher than the previous one. Although the August reserve figure is provisional per the central bank’s reporting standards, the available data clearly demonstrate a consistent upward trend in Egypt’s reserve stock during the first eight months of the year.
