UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – Gold prices hovered above $4,400 an ounce on Thursday after bouncing back from an earlier dip in the previous trading session. Spot gold increased 0.3% to $4,414.28 an ounce by 0419 GMT. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures for December delivery edged down 0.1% to $4,457.20. During Asian trading hours, the dollar remained subdued, supporting bullion priced in the U.S. currency. Gold’s price on Thursday was close to the higher levels it reached late Wednesday following a recovery from earlier losses that day.

Gold steadies near $4,400 with US inflation in focus
Precious metals markets track U.S. inflation readings as gold trades near $4,400 an ounce.

The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury note stayed near 4.84%, keeping interest rate trends in the spotlight across financial markets. Since gold does not pay interest, fluctuations in bond yields often influence investor demand for the metal. Brent crude also stayed above $100 a barrel after crossing that threshold during Wednesday’s trading session. Elevated oil prices maintained inflation indicators under close scrutiny as traders prepared for upcoming U.S. economic reports. The interplay of currency movements, bond yields, and inflation figures continued to influence gold trading dynamics.

On Thursday, the U.S. is set to release producer price index data at 1230 GMT, with consumer inflation figures following on Friday. These reports will offer fresh insights into inflation pressures ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting scheduled for September 15 and 16. The current federal funds target rate remains between 3.50% and 3.75%. According to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool, markets assign roughly a 60% chance of a rate hike this month. These upcoming economic data releases are expected to be the primary focus for precious metals investors.

Gold sharply rebounds after Wednesday’s early decline

Thursday’s gold prices followed a broad trading range seen during the previous session. At 0040 GMT on Wednesday, spot gold had decreased 0.1% to $4,349.44 an ounce. By 1744 GMT, the metal had climbed 1.4% to $4,414.30. December U.S. gold futures also recovered, closing 0.5% higher at $4,458.80. This recovery ended a three-day decline for bullion, bringing spot prices back above $4,400 before the Asian markets opened on Thursday.

The recent price movements highlighted a notable distinction between Wednesday’s early and later readings. Thursday’s spot gold price was about 1.5% higher than the early Wednesday level of $4,349.44. Meanwhile, December futures remained significantly above their earlier Wednesday level of $4,393.30. The Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting kept interest rate expectations in focus, alongside inflation data. Gold continued to be sensitive to the strength of the dollar and Treasury yields, as investors assessed the latest economic signals amid a relatively stable broader market environment.

Mixed performance observed in silver, platinum, and palladium

On Thursday, other precious metals experienced varied trading patterns after posting stronger gains in the previous session. Spot silver gained 0.3% to $67.50 an ounce, while platinum declined 0.4% to $1,888.05. Palladium saw a modest increase of 0.2% to $1,356.20. During Wednesday’s session, silver had surged 3.3% to $67.91, platinum rose 5.1% to $1,906.20, and palladium gained 1.2% to $1,365.50, reflecting an overall recovery trend across the precious metals market.

Gold stayed above the $4,400 mark in early Thursday trading, with silver remaining above $67 an ounce. The dollar index, Treasury yields, and U.S. inflation reports continued to serve as primary reference points for traders. Producer inflation data is scheduled for Thursday, with consumer inflation figures expected on Friday. These releases are ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on September 15 and 16. For gold, recent trading levels maintained most of Wednesday’s rebound, keeping prices close to the previous session’s late gains.
