ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan has again increased petrol prices on October 6, following a previous hike announced three days earlier. The latest fuel adjustment saw petrol prices go up by Rs0.88 to reach Rs393.64 per litre, while high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This move came after the October 3 revisions, when petrol was Rs392.76 and diesel Rs399.64, with the new rates replacing those levels for the current pricing period.

The revision on October 3 saw petrol rise by Rs2.10 from Rs390.66 per litre, and high-speed diesel increased by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division attributed these changes to fluctuations in international fuel prices and other factors such as benchmark rates, premiums, and associated costs. The country’s fuel pricing system also incorporates taxes and duties, with the federal government currently collecting Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
The October 6 adjustments resulted in petrol continuing its upward trend, increasing by an additional Rs0.88 from the October 3 level. Conversely, diesel prices declined by Rs1.88 after their smaller rise three days earlier. Comparing with October 2, petrol now costs Rs2.98 more per litre, whereas high-speed diesel is Rs1.58 less. This latest revision has widened the price gap between these two main transport fuels sold across Pakistan.
Frequent Fuel Price Changes Due to Daily Adjustment System
Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing mechanism in July, transitioning from weekly revisions used earlier in the year. This system enables domestic prices to respond more swiftly to shifts in international markets, causing fuel prices to fluctuate daily, sometimes moving in opposite directions during the same review. The October 6 decision clearly demonstrated this pattern, with petrol prices rising while diesel prices fell. The Petroleum Division continues to announce revised rates for each pricing cycle accordingly.
Although recent increases have occurred, fuel prices remain significantly below their peak levels of 2026. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel climbed to Rs520.35 per litre. In early March, petrol was nearly Rs266 per litre, while diesel was close to Rs281. Since then, petrol has been Rs64.77 lower than its April high, and diesel Rs122.59 below its peak, indicating substantial declines from earlier this year.
Petrol and Diesel as Essential Transport Fuels
Petrol remains the primary fuel for cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan, while high-speed diesel is predominantly used by trucks, buses, generators, and other commercial machinery. These fuels impact different segments of the transport and energy sectors, and their prices are vital to consumers and businesses because fuel expenses directly influence daily operational costs. The federal government maintains taxes and duties on both products as part of the national petroleum pricing framework.
As of October 6, petrol is priced at Rs393.64 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs397.76 per litre, replacing the previous rates of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. The latest adjustment adds Rs0.88 to petrol and reduces diesel by Rs1.88, continuing the pattern of frequent, daily-based updates. The October 3 increase served as the baseline for these recent changes, with the October 6 revision establishing the current official retail rates.
