FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group plans to allocate more than €10 billion in France over the upcoming five years. Chief Executive François Provost announced this pledge on October 3. The investment aims to boost electric vehicle manufacturing and support lower-cost models. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles in France, and the company anticipates a minimum 25% increase in French production in 2026. Provost emphasized that the commitment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions within the country.

Since 2021, Renault Group has already invested €13 billion in France, funding factories, EV production, and related industrial activities. By July 2026, Renault reported having manufactured one million electric vehicles in France since 2010, with about 600,000 of those produced at its ElectriCity hub in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 staff members across France, and its domestic operations are said to support roughly 35,000 jobs within its supply chain.

The automaker maintains a comprehensive manufacturing network throughout France, including assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Additional facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins provide mechanical and industrial support. Notably, Douai produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Several French sites also produce electric commercial vehicles, making this network a vital component of Renault’s EV production strategy in its home market.

Electric vehicle registrations surge in France

Battery electric vehicles accounted for 42% of new passenger car registrations in France during September, setting a new monthly record for fully electric cars in the country. During that month, France registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles, reflecting an approximate 12% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first nine months of 2026, battery electric models made up about 31% of registrations, up from nearly 18% during the same timeframe a year earlier.

Renault’s production outlook aligns with the growing market share of electric vehicles in France. The company predicts at least a 25% rise in output from its French factories this year. In July, Renault also announced a €13 billion additional investment in France under its futuREady initiative, pending suitable conditions. Provost’s comments in October reaffirm this five-year commitment of more than €10 billion, complementing the €13 billion Renault has invested domestically since 2021.

French manufacturing hubs bolster Renault’s EV output

By July 2026, Renault’s ElectriCity sites at Douai and Maubeuge had produced approximately 600,000 electric vehicles. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units produced by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and various electric commercial vehicles. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity added 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary roles created at Douai as production ramped up.

The newly announced investment expands upon Renault Group’s current spending in France, which totals €13 billion since 2021 across its EV manufacturing facilities. Renault expects a significant increase in domestic vehicle output in 2026 compared to 2025. Provost stated that the coming five years of spending will focus on electric vehicles and more affordable car models. These developments come amid a record year for electric vehicle market share in France.
